Major clothes giveaway!

Part of my quest to simplify is to get rid of all the clothes and shoes and bags that have piled up on me through the years. The plan was to sell them on eBay (I kept mentioning it on the blogs) but I decided on New Year's Day, as I emptied out my closets, I decided that selling means more complications. Measuring, describing, posting, accounting, sending... The process just didn't jive with my simplification!

So I invited my sister and my eldest niece to come over and take all they wanted!

It was so much fun! I had dresses that still had tags on them, clothes I wore only once, tops that were gifted to me but weren't me so I never wore them, shoes I bought for my enlarged post-partum feet that had since shrunk back to normal. The girls brought home bags upon bags of lovely clothes!

Now my closet has maybe 30 dresses in it. I feel lighter, like I can breathe again. The clothes they didn't like—which were nice but they deemed "for oldies" haha—I donated to charity. The house is suddenly bigger, more spacious. The new roominess doesn't even tempt me to shop! In fact, I told my sister and niece to come back again since I unearthed even more stuff for them. I'm happy, they're happy!

P.S. You know what this means, right? No more Topaz Fashion!

    1. We declutter the house every summer and Christmas. People give us a lot of things kasi so kailangan talaga regular ang pag-donate! But I couldn't bring myself to donate my designer dresses =( But now, I have! I've finally accepted I'm never going to be a size 2 again haha

  2. I love purging! We do it once a year for clothes and every time we buy a new toy for our son, we ask him to donate an old toy to our helper's apo :) Creating space in your life opens you up for more blessings :)

  3. I've done the same recently! While I try to sell them on eBay, it does get tiring rin to communicate back and forth for just one item. So what I do is have a garage sale at home after I've gathered everything that I can possibly find that we don't need anymore. The rest, if not bought, I also give away to homeless people. My husband prefer that I give it to a certain charity na lang, but I embarrassingly don't know any. Can you help?

I also give away bags and shoes to my niece (who is just about my age too) and my younger pamangkins lalo na if they're still in brand-new condition.

Btw, parang ang laki ng condo niyo! Kalurky! Wala na atang condo na brand-new na ganiyan kalaki ang living room unless you go for those really expensive ones. Lucky niyo! :D

    1. Okay lang to give to the homeless, no! If you have a business, though, donations to charity are tax-deductible =)

I don't actually know any. My entrepreneur friends just pick up the items and donate them to their charities. Like I said, they get tax deductions kasi.

Ya, hindi siya parang ang laki, malaki talaga ang condo namin! =D We have a big living room. Kasya a big L-shaped sofa and a daybed! Buy from older condos kasi. Ours was built in the 90s kasi. Our hallway is wide, the kitchen is big, the rooms are big. All the new condos now are like 50sqm average. My son's first yaya said of these condos, "Hmp. Kabaong!" LOL

    3. Ang taray, diba? Natawa nga ako. sabi ko, "Bakit, Ate, gaano kalaki bahay mo?" And she said, "Well, 38 square pero malaki ang garden ko!" LOL

    4. Si Mother kasi she thinks people in the street are (more often than not) working with sindikato (OMG, how do you spell that?) kaya she frowns on me giving away clothes and food while out driving (but I still do!).

Oooh! When we decide to have a place our own I'll keep that in mind. We did have a condo before, sa Greenhills pa mismo, next to Club Filipino, but it was also built in the 90s, malaki naman, kaso main problem ko was cockroaches! As in, every night may bisita ako! I'm TERRIFIED of ipis. At one point, I called the security guard to kill one for me. Kahiya! Kaya I was relieved when it was sold. Lol.

  4. I want to do this this year. It's hard for me to let go, as in, especially gifts. And most of my clothes were gifts. So hard! Then there are the toys of the kids which were mostly gifts too. I'm so sentimental that it's out of place. Kainis.

  6. I did this a few months after I gave birth. Pinamigay ko na yung really small clothes ko, most from my dalaga days. Tinanggap ko na agad di na ko babalik sa size ko dati, para walang samaan ng loob hahaha!

  7. Congratulations!

I rotate the same clothes every 3 weeks (carefully chosen to match with each other, thanks to some of your fashion fridays and other realistic ootd entries).

The funny thing is, the fiance and a lot of my friends are convinced that I've gone crazy. They ask why I wear the same clothes over and over again. My fiance even volunteered to go with me to shop every month. Verbatim, he said: starting this year, you should go shopping every month and pick out atleast 5 items of clothing.

It may not be the norm but it's the best thing I've achieved in 2012. It really saves a lot of time. The ironic thing is when I had a lot of clothes I always say: "I don't have anything to wear!"

Now, I just pickout whatever, head out, and do the really awesome stuff.
