Goal: Be the Oprah of blogging!

Vince and I were talking about how blogging now is the Wild Wild West, no accountability, no rules, no code of ethics, and how this trend is alarming. Vince said that readers will eventually tire of the nasty blogs and support blogs that make their life better. And where readers are, advertising will follow.

He's a changed man, folks!
Vince: (in a hopeful tone) Readers will smarten up.

Me: They already are. Did you know that Perez Hilton has changed the attitude of his blog? (source)

Vince: Wow.

Me: He said that all the suicides last year, the ones caused by bullying, made him think about his blog and how he's a big bully himself, writing all those mean things about stars. And he apologized to Jennifer Aniston no less! And she forgave him (source). He said, "I really want to be part of the solution and not part of the problem." (source)

My next chapter is to create an even  better blog!
Vince: I don't know why people never learned from Oprah. Talk shows used to be all trash and sensationalism. Really! Remember those days?

Me: Yes!

Vince: Oprah said she would not change her programming. She avoided that even though the market was going in that direction. Years later, the others are all gone and she's a billionaire. So be Oprah, rabbit!

Yes. I will be the Oprah of blogging! Positive vibes all around. Love love love!

  2. I stopped reading Perez 2 or 3 years ago. And I used to read him every hour! When I stopped reading him, my life changed. I kid you not! I became less negative, not so mean and nasty anymore. I actually became a pleasant person. My blog reflected that change, too!

So I'm glad he made the change. I can read him again =)

  4. Never followed Perez Hilton before. I never really followed gossip blogs or celeb blogs, or anything celeb for that matter (Sorry, Frances, ha?! I only started following OK! when I met you in person! Peace!)

I dunno, I guess that stuff wasn't "me." My heroes spanned Joan Didion and Christiane Amanpour to Giada de Laurentis and Nigella Lawson. Maybe a bit of Nina Garcia somewhere there, too.

Well, Gwyneth Paltrow is doing a good job of bridging celebrity and homemaking, so maybe I do like Hollywood a little bit more. ;)

    I digress...

Bravo to your goal! I support it! Your blog is my guilty pleasure, along with Chuvaness and Daphne's Diary, hahaha! Keep shining. X

  7. Sometimes I talk about issues in my blog, most of the time it's all positive too. Usually, if it;s negative I say it in a poem. My mom thinks my life is an open book because my blog. She goes: "So you tell everyone about everything? So they know this and that?"

I told her: "Mom, of course I leave the bad... so to my readers, they think my life is perfect!" That, of course, is not true --- but you do not have to know that! Hahahahaha!

I haven't been to Perez' blog in a while... tlaga? no more bullying?

  8. I noticed that Perez became nicer! I've been reading him for 2 years na. Mas naging nice na nga cya. He used to give names to celebrities he doesn't like, even to daughters/sons of celebrities! Nagulat nga ako, in a good way of course, when he's not giving them names na. I'm glad too. :)

  9. Martine, don't worry! My own husband doesn't read my magazine :)

Manila Girl, haha, Vince said that, too. I should give away cars! My goodness, what a goal!

Mom-Fri, ya, I can be very nasty. It's a struggle every day to be good but these days, it's getting easier na :)

  10. The Oprah of Blogging. I like! And I fully support you on that, F!

Like you, I tend not to write about nega stuff on my blog. For me, what's the point? I mean, if it pisses me off, why would I want to share it to people? I don't want to seek the sympathy of people, strangers even, even if people give it wholeheartedly. Like you, I don't want to give bad vibes through my blog, regardless of how many or how few people read it.

Thank you for this post! I'm pretty sure bloggers who read this will be enlightened and be more inspired to spread positivity.

    Hooray for that! =)

  12. Amen to that. And can I just say I love the "silliness" as you say you love to write about here in TH. Really takes the stress of when some other blogs are puro-emote or war-freakish.

  14. There's already too much hate going on... I agree. We should be a little more positive. Sometimes, it's amusing to read/ watch negative blogs or tv shows... But overtime, it sucks out your energy.

Now I realize why Facebook doesn't have a dislike button.
