Can't Fight This Feeling: The song of my life

Back to the 80s. That's my mood last weekend. I actually wanted to do a full post on My Top 10 Favorite 80s Songs (The Search is Over, Right Here Waiting, Bizarre Love Triangle, Always on My Mind, In My Dreams!!!) but I realized I liked waaaay too many songs from that period. It's an impossible task! They don't write songs like those anymore. Lyrics are very important to me. I'm a writer. I really pay attention to the words and the 80s was the best decade for music and lyrics.

REO Speedwagon's Can't Fight This Feeling is the song I sing to my baby IƱigo. It's a funny lullaby, sure, but that was what worked when I was desperately snatching songs from my memory one nap time. It's one of my most favorite songs. It's also the story of my life.

I've always run away from commitment. I never wanted to get married. Never wanted to have kids. Ask all my friends—they always initiated the friendship; I'm never the one to say hi first. I always need to be convinced that I want friends and I want love. I'm so glad and grateful that Vince and my friends and my sons prove to me every day how wrong I am to be so afraid.

Thank you so much for being the candle in the window. I'm finally finally home.

  1. this is why i love songs from the 80s as well. there was always a story told through the lyrics, not just rhyming words. now the lyrics for songs are all gangsta or whatnots. REO speedwagon had some really good songs but "can't fight this feeling" and "keep on loving you" will always stand out for me.

  3. I always remember Cory Monteith when I hear this now! Huhuhuhuhu. Can't believe he's gone. I'm a Gleek, even though everyone hated the show at some point :(

My 80s song? Gosh. Too many. I was a kid then, but I'll always remember Starship playing on our cassette player, thanks to Yaya. Incidentally, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" is an 80s fave, as is Mannequin with Andrew McCarthy!

  4. I agree! 80's songs are the coolest (the 90's kids would probably say the same about their decade. haha). my guilty pleasure is listening to air supply. their songs are cheesy, true, but if you listen to the lyrics, you'd realize that their songs are well-written. also, brad pitt sang an air supply song in mr. and mrs. smith, so may sexy factor na ang songs nila. haha.

  5. I love the 80s too! I've memorized the lyrics to the songs you posted above. :) I got it from my boyfriend, who introduced me to REO Speedwagon back in high school. His theme song for me was In My Dreams! :)
